陶芸を始めたばかりのころから作って来たお気に入りのカップ。独立前はたくさんの友人や家族へのギフトとして作っていました。             My favorite cup that I have been making since I first started pottery. Before starting my own business, I used to make it as a gift for many friends and family members.

10年以上前に自宅用に作って以降、家族や友人へのプレゼントとして作ってきた定番のカップです。

This is a classic cup that I made over 10 years ago for personal use at home, and since then, it has become a staple gift for my family and friends.

当時は紅茶好きだったのでカタチはお茶の香りを充分感じられる様、ひろがりのある形状にし、ストレートでいただく際にお茶の美味しさを感じやすい様に口元はかなり薄くひいていました。

At that time, I was a tea lover, so I designed the shape of the cup to evoke the aroma of tea. It has a wide and expansive shape, allowing one to fully experience the essence of tea when sipping it blacktea. To enhance the taste of tea, I made the rim of the cup quite thin, allowing for a more delicate sensation at the mouth.

カップの色はシルバーティップスの茶葉などを選んだ際に、澄んだ水いろも楽しめるように、内側は乳白色を選びました。

For the color of the cup, I chose a milky white shade for the inside so that it would complement the clarity of water when brewing teas like Silver Tips. This way, one can enjoy the visual aspect of the clear water as well.

外側を飴色にしたのは、コーヒー好きな来訪者のみなさまにもしっくり来るようにコーヒーの色とリンクさせ、2色の釉薬を掛け分けています。

I decided to make the outside in a brown color to create a connection with the rich hue of coffee. This way, it would be pleased with the coffee enthusiasts among my visitors as well. To add more visual interest, I applied two different glazes, alternating between them on the cup’s surface.

うすい口元に2色の釉薬をにじませることで柔らかな雰囲気が出る様にしています。

By blending two different glazes at the thin rim, I create a gentle and soft atmosphere, with the colors subtly intermingling. This technique adds a touch of elegance and enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the cup.

カップに合わせてプレートも製作していた時期がありました。 ケーキ皿としても単品で使用出来るようにこのカタチです。                         There was a period when I also crafted matching plates to accompany the cups. They were designed in a way that they could be used as cake plates individually as well. The shape of the plates was specifically chosen to complement the cups and ensure versatility in their usage.

カップをお皿に乗せても余白部分にクッキーやチョコレートなどの小さなオヤツも一緒に置けるサイズ感です。（金彩のPlat15取り分け皿と同サイズです）

口元や把手部分は特に華奢なので欠けたり折れたりもしやすいです。

The size of the cup is designed to allow for placing small treats like cookies or chocolates in the empty space when the cup is placed on the plate. It shares the same size as the gold-trimmed Plat15 serving plate. However, it’s important to note that the delicate nature of the thin rim and handle makes them more susceptible to chipping or breaking.

丸いティーカップのシリーズとして、コーヒー用にシュッとした雰囲気に仕上げたくてアウトラインをストレートに寄せた形も展開しています。 とはいえ、柔らかさを出したいのでほんの少しアールをかけています。                               As part of the initial tea cup series, I also developed a variation with a sleek and streamlined design specifically for coffee. I wanted to achieve a sharp and clean aesthetic, so I slightly softened the edges with a subtle curve.

こちらは陶芸を始めて間もなかった2008年より継続して少量で製作してきました。

2008, I have been consistently producing this cup in small quantities.

当時はまだ金継ぎのことを知らず、自宅用のこのカップが欠けてしまった時、作り直しをしようとしていたら、当時通っていた陶芸教室の先生から金継ぎの存在を教えていただきました。

During that time, when my personal cup accidentally chipped, I was planning to make a new one. However, my pottery instructor at the studio I attended introduced me to the art of kintsugi—the technique of repairing broken ceramics with gold lacquer.

取手がなくなってしまったカップに透明と茶色のガラス片を継いで金継ぎしたもの。                 I repaired the cup that had lost its handle using the kintsugi method, by joining transparent and brown glass fragments with gold lacquer.

当時、お教室では金継ぎは教えてらっしゃらず、いつか習ってみようとその時決め、長い間、割れたり欠けたりした自作の器を新聞に包んで段ボールに保管していました。

At that time, the pottery studio didn’t teach kintsugi, so I made a decision to learn it someday. For a long time, I carefully wrapped my broken or chipped handmade pottery in newspapers and stored them in cardboard boxes, waiting for the opportunity to learn the art of kintsugi.

その段ボールがいっぱいになった頃、丁度会社勤めを辞め、時間が作れるようになったので陶芸と並行して行うために2017年の11月か12月頃に本漆での金継ぎを習いに行き始めました。

When the cardboard boxes were filled to capacity, coincidentally, I quit my job and had more time available. In order to pursue kintsugi alongside pottery, around November or December of 2017, I started learning the art of kintsugi using traditional lacquer techniques.
